About our classes and curriculum:
Two classrooms are led by Special Education Certified Teachers. Dr. Lee Myford serves as Education Director and is certified as a School Psychologist, Principal, and Superintendent. Our staff also includes multiple related service providers.
Due to the nature of learning differences, our unique grading system involves two areas of academics - Student Participation and Student Performance - to capture progress made by each student. Each student will have an individual report card with corresponding goals that are developmentally appropriate in each learning area aligning with Pennsylvania state standards.
We utilize a series of materials modeling the research by Dr. Karen Erickson. With relevant training for staff, learning materials can be differentiated to support students with varying needs.
What does the school day look like?
The daily schedule is planned to be 8:15am – 2:15pm. We have created this schedule to offer a block for the development of language in the morning and math skills in the afternoon.
Every day at 10:00, students will have an opportunity to participate in specials such as art, music therapy, and adaptive physical education.
The time between 10:45am - 12:15pm includes lunch and time for students to use the Sensory Room, receive related services, or an individual session in the therapy pool. These components allow us to help the whole child with dedication to their personal growth.
We’re all part of the same team.
We believe that parents are incredibly important to their child’s education. Teachers communicate weekly and ongoing parent communication with the professional staff is welcomed and encouraged. We hold two open house nights annually and as well as other family involvement opportunities.
