At River Academy, we know that each student has unique learning needs. We researched for over a year to find the most comprehensive option that targets each student at the developmental level they are currently at, with a strong push to the next level that we believe they can reach!

About Readtopia

Readtopia is a comprehensive literacy curriculum designed to meet the needs of students at all levels in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Life Skills. Each unit is anchored by a graphic novel at the student’s individual reading level. The vocabulary and theme from the novel then apply to the concepts taught in all other subjects. This allows for a continuum of practice to help students make meaningful connections to what they are learning.  

Literacy is our first focus because it sets the foundation for successful learning in all other areas. Readtopia provides engaging leveled literacy learning opportunities that foster skill development from beginner phonics skills all the way through to conventional reading. 

Math instruction is based on real-world applications and supported with visuals such as video lessons, manipulatives, and models.

Science and social studies topics correlate with the language arts story for each unit. Informational text and engaging video lessons help students make connections from what they have read to real-life applications. 

Along with academic areas, each unit also incorporates functional life skills and social skills. Daily practice in these areas helps prepare students for life beyond the classroom.
